Renovation

Have you ever been to a carnival? -----  circling on the Merry-Go-Round  - yelling on the  MONSTER OF DOOM roller coaster - screaming from fright in the Haunted House  - eating junk food -  playing games that you rarely win- and seeing odd shapes in those crazy mirrors.  You run into people who are easy - people who are loud - people who are fast - people who are slow- people who are rude - people who are mean -people who are nice - -    you get the idea.  Carnival days are exhausting!

Sounds like a microcosm of life, doesn't it?

Round and round we go on the Merry Go Round  - making the same mistakes over and over - never getting off to try another path.

THE MONSTER OF DOOM twists and turns,  and in these unexpected and shocking moments we are fearful and scream  - BUT we stay on for another ride.

Does this sound familiar?  I wonder why we stick to the "same ole same ole" when we don't move forward and are unhappy with our circumstances?  I look at it like the House of Mirrors - nothing seems quite right, yet we keep looking in those same mirrors every day for the answers.

Why not renovate? -  take down the tents, serve different food, replace the games, and design new rides.  Change the rules, set different boundaries, and toss out the wiggly mirrors.

Renovate again -  excavate and peel off layers of what doesn't work until you find the wisdom that was buried while you were at the carnival- before you were adorned in anguish, decorated in duties, and reeling in unrealistic responsibilities and expectations.

Renovation is a life time project if we are open to new thoughts and ideas and willing to change.  It is scary to try new ways,  because they might not work - but the  ""same ole" isn't working either, so why not try?  Have courage - be brave - release the fear and dive in -- you might find yourself on a sandy white beach with blue skies and plenty of sunshine -or high in the mountains with fresh air and ski slopes-

Wherever you end up you will find your vision and yourself and wonder why you ever went to the carnival at all...................

  1. I like this analogy - life DOES sometimes seem like a carnival with a slightly nightmarish quality about it - unreal and a little unnerving. Like we can't quite wake up and take control of our own destiny. I appreciate your question, "why not renovate?" Yeh - what's so fun about being scared, or being scary to others?!

I also chuckled at the name of your Monster of Doom ride... I could almost hear you saying it, and it brought up a long-buried memory of you once laughing at those moments we all have likely experienced on the technically-ancient (now) video cameras when we thought the off button had been pushed but it was still filming as the person holding the camera walked along and talked, (not knowing it was all being recorded for posterity)... I think you called it "Igor's lurch" or something. Isn't it funny that I still remember that conversation?!

  2. I actually do remember Igor...and those old - HEAVY - video cameras that I dragged around while filming on a full size VHS tape - It is no wonder that I am still not limping !!

I love the term "slightly nightmarish" when referring to the days spent at the carnival---and at times, I don't think we are truly aware of that fact until we wake up.......
